The Rappahannock Raiders varsity football team was on the road versus the Mathews Blue Devils on Friday, September 27. The Raiders were on the scoreboard in the first quarter behind a Kahlique ‘KJ’ Gaines 5-yard run and an extra point by Edward Headley (7-0). They lit up the scoreboard like Christmas lights in the second quarter with four touchdowns. The first was a 14yd pass from ‘KJ’ Gaines to Elijah Carey to make it (14-0). ‘KJ’ Gaines scored on 6yd run to go up (20-0). Quentin Churchill scored from 11yds out to put the Raiders ahead (28-0) with the two-point conversion. He (Quentin Churchill) found the end zone from 23yds to push the score to (35-0) at the half. ‘KJ” Gaines hit pay dirt for the third time from 2yds to make it (42-0). Tyler West was next to reach the end zone to put his team up (49-0). Ke’Vaun Brown 6yd touchdown run made it a (55-0) Raiders victory. “KJ’ Gaines had 16 carries for 84yds, Juwan Veney 7 carries for 65yds, Quentin Churchill 4 carries for 39yds, and Tyler West 3 carries for 16yds. ‘KJ’ Gaines completed 9 of 16 passes for 124yds. Tyler West had 5 catches for 57yds, Elijah Carey 2 catches for 21yds, Juwan Veney 1 catch for 23yds, Ivon’Ta Brown 1 catch for 32yds. The Raiders defense was led by the bodies up front Delonta’ Butler, Cameron Gilreath, Josiah Carey, Elijah Gaiter-Veal, and Tyler Wilson. Rappahannock has a bye this week their next game will be at home against Colonial Beach on Friday, October 11.
