The Rappahannock Lady Raiders softball team hosted and fell to the Rappahannock County Lady Panthers in the VHSL State quarterfinals on Tuesday, June 4. The Lady Raiders were ahead in every statistic except the most important one; the scoreboard. They out hit the Lady Panthers seven to four and sent more batters to the plate. The visitors were first on the scoreboard with two runs in the top of the first (0-2), one off a wild pitch. Julia Whelan walked in the bottom of the first inning then went from first to third on an Elizabeth Kellum bunt. The home team could not push the run across (0-2). The Lady Panthers had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the third and the home team kept them on the bases. Savannah Goodman singled in the bottom of the sixth; Rilee Baughan followed her with a double to the centerfield fence to cut the deficit in half (1-2). Both teams had people on second with no outs but neither one could manage to score.
