Over the last two years everyone has heard of the newest wave of transportation that has been made available across the United States. The company is called Uber.
Uber is an alternate way of getting fast transportation designed precisely for your needs.
Drivers are independent contractors who use their personal vehicles to pick up people who need rides for any reason.
Uber has been such a success that several other companies have been started using the same idea. LYFT is one of those companies that have flourished over the last several years using the Uber idea.
Benjamin McMahan of Heathsville is going on his second week as a certified driver for Uber and LYFT and so far loves the decision he made.
McMahan got started on the idea when some family friends rented out they’re beach house to a family from Scotland and they needed to find a way to the airport from the Sandy Point area.
“Taxi companies wanted anywhere from $150 to $250 to come from the Richmond area to pick them up. So I got to thinking that I have a decent car, I’ve got time on my hands, I like meeting people so I signed up for Uber and was accepted pretty quickly and hit the road,” McMahan said.
McMahon also applied to LYFT and was accepted.
“Uber and LYFT are both fairly easy to become a driver for. You have to have a car that is 2003 or newer and in good working order,” McMahon added. “You have to provide them with a background check. You just put in all your information and need a good driving record.”
