Richmond County Volunteer Fire Department burned the house at 6102 Richmond Road in Warsaw to the ground in a controlled exercise.
A county resident owns the property and offered the house for rent in previous years.
Fire chief Randy Passagaluppi explained that amid plans to clean up the site, the owners contacted the fire department and asked to have it burned down.
Before the exercise, the fire department and the property owners worked with the Town of Warsaw, who notified the citizens of the surrounding properties. They obtained a demolition permit from Richmond County building officials, and after completing all the regulatory requirements and getting utilities secured for the structure, the fire department set May 20 as the burn date.
