A local Richmond County resident and longtime automobile repairman has started up a new business with the intent of giving back to his community.
On June 17, Will DeShazo opened River Collision Center in the former Nunnally’s building in Warsaw.
Having repaired and repainted what he believed were hundreds, if not thousands, of vehicles for over 25 years, DeShazo said he noticed a local need for his trade in his area of residence.
“There are no other body shops in Richmond County,” said DeShazo. “Part of what I’d seen when I was in Tappahannock is how many cars we fixed from the Northern Neck. I just wish to keep that money here.”
DeShazo also erected his business in hopes of supporting civic groups and organizations throughout the county that include but are not limited to local churches, the Warsaw Rotary Club, the Richmond County Family YMCA, the Richmond County Volunteer Fire Department and Richmond County Emergency Services.
“I felt like my family and I have been extremely blessed in many ways,” said DeShazo. “One thing I wanted to do was to be able to give back to the community.
That’s what I look forward to more than anything.”
Every month, for every person whose car that DeShazo repairs, he will ask the customer to nominate a community organization they would like him to make a contribution to.
“At the end of the month, there’s going to be a drawing,” said DeSahzo, adding he would make a contribution to the organization he selected from the drawing.
For this month, DeShazo will be making a contribution to the YMCA.
“The YMCA, the little league and all are such a big part of the community here,” said DeShazo.
When asked why the former Nunnally’s was chosen as his business location, DeShazo noted the facility’s size, as well its proximity to Tappahannock.
“I wanted to be on the Tappahannock side to be able to service those customers as well,” he said.
River Collision Center will offer any and all services related to vehicle bodywork, including insurance work, accidents and paint jobs.
DeShazo said that River Collision is both locally owned and operated while also providing jobs to people in the community.
DeShazo added that he feels “very fortunate” to have been welcomed by the people of his community and looks forward to their continued support.
