The Rappahannock Lady Raiders volleyball team hosted the Riverheads Lady Gladiators in the team and school’s first ever trip to the state semifinals on Tuesday, November 19. Their season came to an end with a (0-3) loss to the Lady Gladiators. The Lady Raiders did what their Head Coach Kristin Patterson stated they could if they ran the system and played together. “We have a very special team that can-do big things” said Head Coach Kristin Patterson early in the season. They were led by senior’s setter Regan Allen, outside hitter Ella Campbell, and middle hitter Julia Whelan. Regan Allen’s positive vibes and confidence all the time attitude carried over to the other members of the team. Ella Campbell improved each of the last three years and her on court leadership keyed a few of the Lady Raiders victories. Julia Whelan stated, “I can jump; you might not think so, but I have hops.” I showed as she would rack up block after block with a keen eye for the ball and timing. The three seniors enjoyed playing the game and you could tell by their communications and expressions while the ball was in play and especially between points getting everyone setup.
