Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) Northern Neck Residency Assistant Administrator, Carter White, addressed board members last week on the roadside mowing problem that has been plaguing the Northern Neck area over the summer.
Throughout the summer VDOT crews have been working on multiple emergency road pipe repairs in the Northern Neck Residency’s geographic area, which includes Northumberland, Richmond, Westmoreland, King George and Lancaster counties.
The Northern Neck area has received several storms with intense rainfall over June and July that closed several state-maintained roads.

VDOT crews started their first round of roadside mowing on state-maintained highways in June in all five counties located in their geographic areas.
Weather conditions and emergency calls caused workers to fall behind on mowing and litter control and they still have not caught up with the tall vegetation problems in some areas.
