The Rappahannock Raiders varsity football team welcomed the Essex Trojans on Friday, November 3. The Trojans were not the best of guest; they defeated the Raiders (0-51). The team across the Rappahannock has been on the winning side for quite a few years. The Trojans went eight plays on their first drive to score a touchdown with a 32-yard pass from Ashton Ashlock to Delontae Norman. After a punt, the Trojans scored on a 43-yard pass from Ashton Ashlock to Terrell Hundley and a (0-16) lead. The visitors ran the ball for their next score; a 4-yard run by K J Dameron and a (0-23) advantage. The Raiders forced a punt early in the second quarter, but the Trojans found pay dirt the next two times they touched the ball. Ashton Ashlock connected with Terrell Hundley again then Avante Banks went around the left side for an 8-yard touchdown to go ahead (0-37). Genondre Bunday picked off a Raiders pass and returned it 23-yards for a touchdown. On one of the Raiders better drives, Kevonta Harris intercepted the ball in the end zone to give it back to the Trojans. Ricardo Harris took a direct snap and went 95-yards to the other end zone for a Trojans touchdown that made the score (0-51). The Raiders continues to compete as they had done all year. They had a six-play drive that ended at the Trojans 10-yard line and an incomplete pass in the end zone as the clock went to zeros. The young Raiders team has grown over the season, so we can look forward to more yards, catches, and touchdowns to come.
