Trojans split wins at tourney

The Essex Softball team finished 2-2 in the Sports + Plus Tournament at L.C. Bird this past weekend. At the end of the day, Essex claimed wins over Charles City 14-0 and Isle of Wight 7-5, but fell to Bluestone 12-1 and Dinwiddie 12-4.

Katie Parr (2-6) had a run and an RBI after four games in the tournament. She was followed by Brionna Coleman (1-10) who had a run and an RBI;

Taylor Glass (6-12) had five runs, four RBI’s, a double and a homerun; Emily Broache (6-11) had three runs, two RBI’s, a double and a homerun; Hannah Rennolds (0-2) had two runs;

Kaitlin Saunders (4-9) had three RBI’s and double; Kallie Carson (2-7)  had a double; Becky Jones (1-7) had an RBI and a double; Savannah Wood (5-13) had five runs, three RBI’s and two doubles; Jamie Thompson (1-2) had two runs, two RBI’s and a triple; Tavis Hundley (3-4) had two runs, two RBI’s and a double; Britney Owens (0-6) had a run; LaDaijra Ball (3-4) had three runs,  three RBI’s and a double; and Gabby Tignor (1-1) had two RBI’s.

Pitching: Owens (Charles City pitched five innings, allowed two hits, two walks and no runs. She struck out 10; Carson (Bluestone) pitched five innings allowed 14 hits, 12 runs and four walks. She struck out one; Carson (Isle of Wight)  pitched seven innings, allowed five hits, five runs, four walks. She struck out five; Carson (Dinwiddie) pitched four innings, allowed seven hits, six runs and one walk; Owens (Dinwiddie) pitched won inning, allowed six hits, six runs and four walks.
