The Essex Trojans varsity soccer team hosted and loss to the New Kent Trojans (1-3) on Thursday April 26. The Trojans were first on the board when Alden McKinley passed the ball to Darius Jones who hit the back of the net for a (1-0) lead at the 9-minute mark. The New Kent Trojans stepped up their offensive pressure and got a goal to tie the game (1-1) at the 13-minute mark. Essex Waled Almareh had a good shot that went over the goal mid-way through the first half. Essex had to more scoring opportunities; Alden McKinley sent the ball over the crossbar at the 27-minute mark, and Darius Jones sent the ball whizzing by the right post three minutes before the half. Essex goalie Ray Rector made two saves one of a throw in and the other was diving to his right to keep the game knotted (1-1). Off a free kick, Essex Waled Almareh just missed the right post. New Kent free kick from mid-field bounced between a player and the goalie to hit the net for a (1-2) lead at the 52 minute-mark. Essex Waled Almareh missed a game tying goal on the left post side with eleven minutes remaining in the game. New Kent scored again with five minutes left to make it a (1-3) final game score. Essex will play Northumberland and Lancaster this week on Monday and Friday, May 1 and 5.
