CAM Spirits is working to establish a winery and distillery in Heathsville that will operate under the name Triple V Farms. It’ll be located at 3138 Jessie Dupont Memorial Highway, which is the site that was formerly run as Athena Vineyards and Winery.
Craig Allshouse and Marti Moyer acquired the property in 2018. Since it wasn’t maintained for years, “a lot of the vines died or were diseased, and there were too many varieties of grapes to be commercially viable,” said Allshouse. They’ve torn out varieties that aren’t well suited for Virginia as well as vines that weren’t any good, and are replanting about 20 percent of the 12-acre vineyard.
As it stands, they expect to have 11 different varieties of grapes, and they expect the wine to be ready next year.
CAM Spirits also plans to produce distilled alcohol at Triple V Farms. “Initially, we’ll probably just do vodka and moonshine,” said Allshouse. They’re aiming to open the tasting room by mid to late summer and begin selling those products.
For this to happen, CAM Spirits still needs to get its class A farm winery and limited distillery licenses from Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Authority.
