Captain Steve Smith with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office reports that on May 18, 2015 they arrested Melquan D. Collier. Collier was wanted for a violation of probation and homicide in the City of New York.
This agency received information from the United States Marshal Service that Collier was possibly in the Richmond County area and was wanted for a homicide that occurred in New York City in 2013.
Monday afternoon, May 18, 2015, members from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, entered a residence in the Haynesville area and apprehended Collier. Collier attempted to conceal his identity by giving a false name to Investigators. Two firearms were also discovered and seized at the scene.
The lead New York City Detective was notified that Collier had been arrested. Collier is being held under no bond at the Northern Neck Regional Jail to await an extradition hearing on May 21, 2015.
Collier appeared in court where he waived extradition and was subsequently transported back to New York to stand trial for homicide.
