Since mid-August Haynesville Correctional Center has been partially solar powered by one of three new solar energy projects launched at state facilities.
In December 2018, Governor Ralph Northam announced plans for solar installations at the Virginia Department of Forestry headquarters in Charlottesville, the Virginia Public Safety Training Center in Hanover and at Haynesville Correctional Center that would collectively represent over 1.3 megawatts of solar deployment.
“These solar projects will help our state agencies reduce their energy costs while transitioning toward more renewable energy deployment, which is an important goal of my administration,” Northam said.
Construction began on the Haynesville solar project on February 25. A 660 kW ground-mounted system was installed that’s designed to offset 16 percent of the facility’s energy needs.
