No injuries reported; more than $1 million in damages assessed

In the eyes of so many Colonial Beach town residents, the only thing that could surpass the devastating damage done by the severe storm that swept through the water town Friday, April 21, is the astounding action taken by the county’s first responders and linemen, many of whom worked more than 24 hours straight to tend to the havoc wrought upon homes, streets and businesses and who continue to work as the community begins to clean up the debris left behind.
The supercell storm gave little warning of the devastation to come. At approximately 7:10 p.m., the same storm roared through King George before it crept its way toward the town of Colonial Beach at approximately 7:20 p.m. Beginning with a light shower and virtually no wind, it was just a mere three minutes before the now straight-line showers increased and winds picked up to 75 mph, causing a tornado-like effect on the surrounding area, as reported by the National Weather Service.
