While the Northern Neck experienced a steady cold rain on Monday, the Shenandoah Valley was experiencing an ice storm that knocked out power to over 5,700 residents.
“It ended up causing a lot of downed trees, power lines and broken poles. Things of that nature,” said Jay Garner of Northern Neck Electric in Warsaw. “We received a call from them asking if anyone could help and these guys stepped forward.”
The crew members that headed out Monday night included Derek Pierson, Shawn Coates, David Jackson and P.J. Hackett.
“It goes back to Co-ops helping Co-ops,” Garner said.
The crew was expecting to join up with the Shenandoah Valley Co-op early Tuesday morning.
By late Tuesday afternoon the co-ops had restored power to almost 2,000 residents.
“We have several sister co-ops assisting as well so hopefully they’ll get a handle out there in the next day or so and the crew will be back with us,” Garner said. “It’s good to answer a call for help when the call goes out.”
