Children ranging from ages four to 14 participated in the Progressive Agriculture Safety Day at the Tappahannock|Essex Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday. The eight-part workshop was designed to teach them how to live healthier, safer lives as rural citizens.
Safety Days are held across the U.S. and Canada. But this event was tailored to address the accident and safety concerns in this area, explained Waring Baylor, the event coordinator and education coordinator for Three Rivers Soil & Water Conservation District.
Brad Gersten from James River Equipment was brought in for a presentation on lawn mower/PTO Safety because people don’t realize how many lawn mower and tractor accidents are extremely common out here, said Baylor.
