Richmond County Family YMCA Program Director, Ron Alston is a firm believer in providing everyone recreational programs that will lead to a healthy lifestyle. “We gear our programs so that everybody can participate,” Alston said. “It’s not only about skill level or your class. Anybody can participate in YMCA programs, and that’s what it’s for.”
Currently, the Richmond County based YMCA children’s basketball program is in the midst of beginning its winter basketball program. On December 10, at the Richmond County Intermediate School, the YMCA featured a Skills & Drills Day. The event featured area volunteer coaches, who evaluated basketball skill levels from kids, ages 3-15. Participants were judged on dribbling, passing, shooting and defense. “Coaches were able to gage which team to place them on based on skill level to make it an even competition for every team that week,” Alston said.
