Rappahannock soccer takes trophy

The Rappahannock Raiders soccer team won their three home matches this week against Appomattox Regional Governor’s School, West Point, and Northampton to win the school’s first 1A East Regional tournament championship. In the game versus the Appomattox Regional Governor’s Dragons, the Raiders scored at will to win (7-1). Rett Hillman had a “handful or quintuple” five goals; he was putting the ball in the net whenever the urge suited him. Eddie Zarraga put the ball in the back of the net at the 57-minute mark. At the 63-minute mark JP Maupin got in on the scoring with the Raiders final goal. Josh Stanley had 6 saves to keep the Raiders offense on the attack. The Raiders faced the West Point Pointers on Wednesday May 31, and won (1-0) to make it to the Virginia 1A State tournament. Eddie Zarraga had the only goal off a pass from JP Maupin, and Josh Stanley had 8 saves. The 1A East Regional championship match was held Friday June 2.
