The Rappahannock Raiders varsity baseball team hosted and shutout the James Monroe Yellowjackets on Monday, April 1. The Raiders got on the scoreboard in the first inning with three runs (3-0); they followed that with another run in the second (4-0). Then came the bottom of the third, when the Raiders offense batted around and put up ten runs to make it (14-0). Jordan Roberts triple, Tyler West and Austin Vaughn doubles, and singles by Marveon Newton and Joseph Pierson drove in the runs. Joseph Pierson was on the hill; he went three innings with 7 K’s, one hit, and no runs to get the victory. Marveon Newton pitched the fourth and Caleb Turner threw the fifth in relief to close out the game. Korey Gordon had 1 hit, 3 rbi’s, and scored 2 runs, Jordan Roberts had 1 hit, 2 rbi’s, scored 2 runs and stole two bases, Austin Vaughn had 1 hit, 2 rbi’s, and scored 2 runs, Joseph Pierson 1 hit, 2 rbi’s, scored 2 runs and stole 2 bases, Tyler West had 2 hits and 1 rbi, Marveon Newton 1 hit and 1 rbi.
