The Rappahannock Raiders varsity football team began their season with a win on the road versus the Nandau Warriors on Thursday, August 29. The Raiders took their opening drive down the field in five plays and scored on a Kahlique “KJ” Gaines twenty-five-yard touchdown run to make it (6-0) the extra point made it (7-0) early in the first quarter. They got the ball back on their ten-yard line and five plays later KJ Gaines was in the end zone for the second time with a twenty-six-yard run to go up (14-0).
Their next drive took six plays to change the scoreboard; Juwan Veney scored from sixteen yards out to put his team up (21-0) late in the first. The Raiders next drive began in the Warriors territory and just like the other possessions they scored a touchdown to make it (28-6); KJ Gaines carried the rock over the goal line from the seven-yard-line.
