The Varsity Raiders faced a familiar foe the W&L Eagles on Jan. 31 at home.
The teams had played twice this season with the Eagles victorious in both games. Before the game began the Raiders were assessed a technical [one of the Raiders players dunked the ball while the referees were on the court; the referee observed this action] so the call was made.
The Eagles were given two free-throws and the ball; fortunately they missed both free-throws. The home team’s defense came out swarming got a turnover, and the offense was first on the scoreboard with a thunderous slam dunk by Kelvante Ellis.
The athletic Raiders did not have one of their best shooting nights, so they made up for the low percentage by getting more opportunities and limiting their opponents. Marcus Byrd carried his team by crashing the boards (11 rebounds), blocking shoots (3), and scoring (21) points.
