The Rappahannock Raiders varsity basketball team beat the Northumberland Indians at home on Tuesday, January 22. The Raiders used balanced scoring with four players in double figures Kevin Byrd 13pts, Savion Epps 11pts, Lawrence Reed 11pts, and Tyler West 10pts to get the victory. They took a big lead at the end of the first period (18-8). The Indians rallied in the second and made it (31-24) at the half. They did the same in the third quarter and made it a two-point game (41-39) at the end of the third. The Raiders sank eight free-throws in the final period and held the Indians to nine points to get the (57-48) win. Ke’Vaun Brown scored 4pts, Jacob McCaleb 3tps, Elijah Carey 3pts, and Korey Gordon 2pts. The Raiders traveled to W&L and defeated the Eagles on Friday, January 25. Head Coach Jonas Ankrom said, “This was the third time we played them [Eagles], so we know they and they know us. It was a defensive game and we just found a way to win.” The Eagles were first on the scoreboard (0-4) and (2-6) with 4:52 to play in the first period. The visitors closed within one (7-8) with 3:35 to go and were down by two (10-12) at the end of the first.
