On Friday, April 14, the Friends of the Saddlery hosted an evening acoustic concert featuring local artist and Town of Warsaw Councilman Faron Hamblin at the Warsaw Town Park. They accepted donations as the entry and raised over $100. Hamblin played country hits and blues classics for the delighted crowd of two dozen patrons. Relish Restaurant and Wine Bar partnered with the Friends of the Saddlery for the evening and offered proceeds from beverage purchases towards the Saddlery movement.
The Friends of the Saddlery group has raised over $8,000 since its formation, with a goal of $15,000 to match current owner Gregory Packett and an end goal of $40,000. This sum will help complete “Phase I” of the Saddlery salvation, which will move it to a new location from Route 360 to the inside of the town park, facing Main Street. The concentrated effort to save the historic building is a collaboration in and between local government, private businesses, non-profit entities and citizens. They hope to reach their match goal by June. The next scheduled meeting to discuss the saddlery progress is schedule for tonight, April 19, at 6 p.m. in the Town Council Chambers of the Robert W. Lowery Municipal Building in Warsaw.
