Obituaries, week of June 5: Coggin, Motley

Mary Elizabeth Ames Coggin

Mary Elizabeth Ames Coggin, died June 2. She lived in Warsaw. She was the daughter of the late Dr. E. Turner Ames and Ethel Miller Blanton and the wife of the late R. Marshall Coggin. Mrs. Coggin is survived by three children, Rodney Ames and E. Turner Coggin of Richmond and Mary Rebecca Hubert of Warsaw. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Bergen Elizabeth and Juergen Marshall Hubert, Morgan Ames, Mathew Jenks and Bailey Walker Coggin, John Dos Passos and Lara Dos Passos Coggin, and one great-grandchild, Ignacio Angeles Coggin. Mrs. Coggin attended Stratford Junior College and Maryland College for Women. She was a charter member of the Garden Club of Virginia and a member of the Rappahannock Community College Foundation. She served on the Richmond County Board of Elections and was co-chair of the county’s Bicentennial celebrations in 1976 and 1981 for which she received a citizen of the year citation and a resolution of appreciation. Graveside services at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Warsaw will be at 11 a.m., June 6 with reception to follow at Wellford Hall Parish House. Jean Barrack Motley

Jean Barrack Motley, 82 of Stafford died Thursday May 30, 2013. Born in Robley, she was a loving mother and grandmother and a great storyteller. Survivors include four children, Joe Hanks of Stafford, Connie Ange of Stafford, Barbara Hinebaugh of Oakland MD and Craig Motley of Fredericksburg; two sisters, Shirley Smith and Diane Gaskins and four grandchildren, Ryan, Laura, Christopher and Emily. She was also preceded in death by a son, Todd Motley. A graveside funeral was held Sunday June 2nd at 2:00 PM in Greenlawn Cemetery 17623 Lakewood Road Bowling Green VA.
