Obituaries, week of June 18: Evans, Jones, Burrell

Vernon Evans, 56, of Lively, Va. died on June 12, 2014. He was a Captain at the Virginia Department of Corrections, Haynesville, Va.

He is survived by his son, Kyle Evans and his grandson, Gavin of Orlando, Fla.; his daughter, Vickie Evans, her husband, Glenn and his grandchildren Daric, Julie and Justin of Crisfield, Md.; his fiancée Jean Greenwood of Lively; his brother, Robert M. Evans of Maple Shade, N.J. and his mother, Marie Evans of Fairport, Va. He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Evans.

A funeral service was held 2 p. m. Monday, June 16 at Tibitha Church of God, Reedville, Va. Interment was at Roseland Cemetery. Family will receive friends 6 to 8 p. m. Sunday, June 15 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, Va.

James L. “Jake” Jones, 89, of Farnham, passed away Friday, June 6, 2014. He was the widower of Evelyn Wilmore Jones, a retired farmer, a retired newspaper carrier and a member of Farnham Baptist Church.

Survivors are his son, Albert R. Jones Sr. (Jean) of Farnham; two grandsons, Albert R. Jones Jr. and Christopher K. Jones (Jessica); granddaughter, Teresa Heffren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, John Mitchell Jones Sr. and his grandson, John Mitchell Jones Jr.

A graveside service was held at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Farnham Baptist Church Cemetery. The Reverend John Penny officiated.




Howard “Bine” Burrell passed away June 3, 2014. He was born Feb. 9, 1941 to John Burrell Sr. and Susie Burrell in Westmoreland County.

He attended Kremlin School in Oldhams. Early in life he joined Jerusalem Baptist Church.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Susie Burrell; a sister, Mary “Mamie” Burrell; two brothers, Eddie and Tommy Hicks Burrell, and a brother-in-law, Melvin Thompson.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories, Louise Thompson, Rosie Burrell, Susie Burrell, John Burrell Jr. (Evangelist Sallie), Melvin Burrell (Carolyn), Austin Burrell (Thelma); special niece, Tiffany Burrell; special friend, Savannah, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held June 7 at Jerusalem Baptist Church. Pastor Darryl Fisher officiated. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
