Norman Baylor, Jr.
A service of remembrance for Mr. Norman Baylor, Jr. was held Friday, December 21, 2012, at the Berry O. Waddy Funeral Home. Reverend Gernard Reed of Mulberry Baptist Church officiated.
Norman Winston Baylor, Jr., son of Lucille J. McClear and the late Norman W. Baylor, Sr., was born May 18, 1949 in Montclair, New Jersey.
Educated in Berryville, VA, he joined the Army after graduating high school. Ultimately, he was medically discharged from the military. He later attended Bible College. He was a member of Clarksville Baptist Church in Warsaw.
On Tuesday, December 18, 2012, God called His child home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Carolyn Baylor of Tappahannock; his mother and stepfather, Lucille and Walter McClear; three sisters, Alice C. Parrott (Timothy) of Midlothian, Gloria B. Eastep (Gary) of Winchester and Deborah B. James (Jessie) of Henderson, Nevada; children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
Interment services were private.
Walter William Clarke
Walter William Clarke, 76, of Millers Tavern died Monday, December 31, 2012. He was a retired manager for H. Warshow & Son. Walter is survived by his wife, Irene Temple Clarke; his son and daughter in law, Michael and Deanna Clarke of Warsaw; one sister, Genevieve Balderson and her husband, Irving of Lively; step-granddaughter, Karen Lankford and her husband David and two step-great-grandchildren, Blake and Kyle Lankford and his brother in law, Rodger Davis. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 in the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home, Tappahannock with the Reverend Mina Sumpter. Interment followed in Essex Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jody Parr, William Taylor, Jonah Langford, Donnie George, Russell Harmon and Robert Kent. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Poates, Ben Davis and Dennis Clarke. Clarence Frederick Evans
Clarence Frederick Evans, 85, of Hague, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 10,2013. He was a member of Coles Point United Methodist Church and a retired plumber and electrician, and a retired World War II Army Air Corp veteran.
He is preceded in death by his wives Virginia Bowen Evans and Genieve Ellis
He is survived by his daughters Mary Virginia Evans and Patricia (Patsy) E. Sanderson and a devoted son-in-law David E. Sanderson Jr., all of Hague; one step daughter, Margaret Estelle Ellis and husband, Littleton, of King George; two grandchildren, David Jason Sanderson and wife Dawn of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Amy Reamy-Elliott and husband Spencer of Hague; one sister, Francis E. Jenkins, Warsaw; one great-grandson, Dylan Lewis Elliott, and three step-great-grandchildren, George H. Bunch V, Christian N. Bunch and Trenton Elliott.
A memorial service was held on Sunday, Jan. 13 at the Welch Funeral Home, Montross. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fredericksburg SPCA, 10819 Courthouse Rd., Fredericksburg, Va. 22408.

Ellen Lorraine Herbert
Ellen Lorraine Herbert, 82, of Callao, was reunited with her beloved husband, Walter, on December 25 when the Lord called her home.
Lorraine was a 1949 graduate of St. Cecilia’s Academy in Washington D.C. She worked at IBEW until her marriage on November 19, 1950, to Walter Albert Herbert Sr. They were soul mates and best friends and enjoyed 59 years of marriage until his passing February 1, 2010.
She was a long-time faithful member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and was a regular at the Saturday evening 5 p.m. Mass. Afterwards, her favorite place to dine was the China Inn in Warsaw where Lorraine and her late husband, Walter, loved the food and people. Lorraine was noted for her delicious baked beans which were enjoyed by her family and friends.
She was a devoted Mother and is survived by her seven children – Bonnie Burgwald, Debbie (Chris) Woegens, Walter (Mary Lou) Herbert, Theresa (Dennis) Prematta, Barry (Sheila) Herbert, Norman Herbert and Nora (Bill) Jenkins; brother James (Helen) Creighton; grandchildren Matthew, Jennifer, Lea, Suzanne, Jessica, Emily, William and Daniel; great grandchildren Brianna and Victor. A funeral Mass was held on January 3 at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church followed by internment at Quantico National Cemetery. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Paul’s Mission Church in the summer.

Abalene “Abby” Martin
On January 1, 2013, our beloved mother Abalene (Abby) Martin went to be with God. She is survived by two sisters, Mary Carolyn Neal of Haynesville and Patty Hill of Fries, VA, two daughters Kathy Marie Lynn of Lottsburg and Carole Ann Martin of San Jose, CA; two sons, Billy Martin of Bladensburg, MD and Mike Martin of Solomons Island, MD. She is also survived by five grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life on January 19, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Methodist Church in Olams. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in her name to the American Diabetes Association.
Jane Myers Mothershead
Jane Myers Mothershead, 97, of Farnham, VA, died on Monday, December 31, 2012, surrounded by her devoted daughters. She was the widow of Carey Hynson Mothershead, the oldest active member of Farnham Baptist Church and a retiree of Levi Strauss. She was a remarkable woman, talented quilter and affectionately known by many as “Grannie”.
Surviving are three daughters, Eleanor Cash of Topping, VA, Charlotte Pierson and loving son-in-law, Ladell, of Warsaw, and Brenda Gray of Mechanicsville; seven grandchildren , Debbie Maiden, Danny Pierson (Shelley), Allan Cash (Donna), Donna Tignor (Daniel), David Pierson (Stacy), Troy Gray (Ann) and Dana Ramberg; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and a foster son, Leonard Edward “Mickey” Jones.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Farnham Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The Reverend Rodney Morrison officiated. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Danny Pierson, Allan Cash, David Pierson, Troy Gray, Daniel Tignor, and Ray Maiden. Michael Francis Nolan I
Michael Francis Nolan I, 53, of Kilmarnock, Virginia died January 7, 2013. He was an Eagle Scout and retired Chief Engineer for the Merchant Marine.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Nolan of Kilmarnock; his children, Jamie Nolan and Michael Francis Nolan II of Richmond; his parents, Gerard and Joan Nolan of Lottsburg; his brother, Kevin Nolan of Grapevine, Texas; his aunt, Francis Miller of Fla.; his uncle, Bob Evans of N. Y. and numerous cousins.
Michael graduated from Calhoun Engineering School in Baltimore, Md. and then joined the Merchant Marine. He had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to tell stories especially those related to his time at sea.
A Mass of the Resurrection was said Friday, January 11 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Kilmarnock with Father James Bruse officiating.

Virginia A. Phillips, 72, of Callao, Virginia, passed away on January 2, 2013.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Phillips.
She is survived by her fiancé, Nathan Blackwell of Fredericksburg, Virginia. She is also survived by her daughters, Cynthia Dunn, of Callao, Virginia, and Debra D. Exline and her husband, Brad of Maryland; one son, Robert R. Gallahan Jr. of Valley Forge, Virginia; eight grandchildren, Korrie Gallahan, Allen Nolen, Michael Dunn, Bradley Exline, Harley Dunn, Matthew Exline, Rachel Gallahan, Mac Gallahan; and four great-grand children, Thomas Nolen, Kay-Kay McGann, Kylie Exline, and Wyatt Gallahan. Burial will be private.

Self, and his companion, Tammy, of Callao, Virginia, Terry K. Self, and his wife Susan of Farnham, Virginia, and William “Butch” A. Self and his wife, Sally, of Callao, Virginia; sisters, Shirley S. Headley and her husband, Carrington, of Tappahannock, Virginia, Mary S. Martin and her husband Art of Hanover, Virginia, Peggy S. Mallory, and her husband Bobby of Warsaw, Virginia; brothers, Robert L. Self, and his wife, Joleene, of Farnham, Virginia; his mother, Hazel Lewis Self, of Warsaw, Virginia; seven grand-children, Michelle, Andy, Amy, Keith, Heather, Brian, and Mike; and four great-grandchildren; and a faithful, long-time employee, Corrine Mozingo.
The family received friends at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood, on Saturday, January 12, 2013. A funeral service was held at the funeral home on Sunday, January 13, 2013 Burial followed at Oakland United Methodist Church, Farnham, Virginia.
