SMSgt James E. “Butch” Banes III
SMSgt James E. “Butch” Banes III, born 4th of July 1949 passed on 4 December 2013 in the arms of his wife, Nancy Grissom Banes. A Vietnam Vet, proud of his 26 years of service in the Air Force, he said “welcome home” to every Veteran he met.
He is survived by sons Joseph and Robert, grandchildren Kaiden, Javlin and Ariana and mother, Delores Lammey.
He was a proud member of Reedville American Legion Post 117, the VFW, Air Force Association, and a life member of Callao Moose Lodge 917. He considered the Lodge his family and a celebration of his life will be held there Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.
Dorothy Sanchez Evans
Dorothy Sanchez Evans, 95, of Mollusk, Virginia, passed away on Friday, December 6, 2013.
She was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Lively, Virginia.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ron Evans.
She is survived by her son, Lloyd Tatem, Edgewater Park, NJ., and two grandchildren, Kathleen Victoria, and Caroline Joy Tatem.
Born in New York City, Mrs. Evans attended public school in Englewood, New Jersey. She also attended Greenbrier Junior College, Lewisburg, WV, for two years, and was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs Business College, New York City.
Her early career was in advertising in New York City with the J. Walter Thompson Company. She wrote radio commercials for many famous celebrities.
She lived in Hamilton, Bermuda for 35 years where she worked in management with a newspaper, employment agency, office equipment company, travel agency, and Reynolds Metals. She retired as personnel manager with Gulf Oil Company.
She and her husband Ron were married in 1972 in Columbia, South Carolina. On the recommendation of friends, they retired to Corrottoman-by-the-Bay in Lancaster County, VA. In Bermuda, her husband was involved in all facets of the broadcast industry, from singing to technical matters. This led to Ron and Dot hosting a big band show, “Dinner by Candlelight” on WKWI in Kilmarnock. Dot continued this program after her husband’s death in 1990.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Bethel United Methodist Church, Lively, Virginia. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Kathy L. Moodie
Kathy L. Moodie, 68, of Heathsville, passed away in her home on December 4, 2013.
Kathy was born in Greenport, New York in 1945. Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was preceded in death by her father, William Keller and brother, Robert Keller.
She is survived by her husband, Nelson Moodie Jr.; daughters, Abigail Campbell and Amanda Teague and their spouses, Michael Campbell Jr. and Robert Teague; grandchildren, Lauren Campbell and Myles Teague; mother, Elizabeth Keller; siblings, William Keller Jr., Ruth Muschamp, Christine Hilliker and James Keller; aunts, Pauline and Helen Case, Dorothy Kappenburg and uncle, Richard Keller.
Kathy lived in Triangle and for many years was a registered nurse at the U.S. Department of State. She retired in January 2008 to Heathsville where she indulged in her passion for cooking, boating and crabbing on the Coan River, and spending time with her family.

Adam Randolph Walker
Adam Randolph Walker, 53, of Lottsburg, formerly of Fairfax, raised in Mt. Vernon, passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013. Adam was the son of Jack and Vera Walker and a former construction safety officer for Clark Construction.
Survivors are his children, Hunter Randolph Walker and Kelly Kathryn Walker; his life partner, Cheryl Daneker Fisher; his wife, Kathy Tomaselli Walker; and his sister, Amanda Pruitt.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Callao Moose Lodge #917.
Marjorie Ann Hanks Packett
Marjorie Ann Hanks Packett, 80, of Warsaw passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013. She was a retired telephone operator for Tidewater Telephone Company and a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church.
She is survived by her son, John A. Packett Jr. (Wanda F.) of Short Pump; daughters, JoAnn Purcell of Warsaw and Deborah Douglas of Heathsville; brothers, Kenneth Hanks (Brenda) of Kernersville, NC and Roger Hanks of Dewitt; sister, Shirley Vanlandingham of Champlain; grandchildren, Ashley, Casey, Chad, Jonathan, Michael, Sarah and Thomas; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kylee, and Tori.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Welford and Edith Hanks Sr.; brothers, Welford Fax Hanks Jr. and Elwood Ray Hanks; sister, Doris Hanks Hinson and grandson, Dusty Douglas.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Welch Funeral Home-Marks Chapel. Interment followed at Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery. Richard Sutton “Ricky” Branson
Richard Sutton “Ricky” Branson, 61, of Montross, husband of Betty M. Branson, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2013. He was retired as parts salesman at Warsaw Small Engines.
He is survived by a son, William B Sisson (Samantha) of Montross; daughter, Vicki B. Hackett (Samuel) of Henrico and brother Benjamin H. Branson Jr., (Janet) of Montross.

Barbara L. Ballinger, 88, of Reedville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2013.
She was a retired Contract Negotiator with the Department of Defense.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack N. Ballinger, and her daughter, Kandis Ulrich Carleton.
She is survived by three sons, Jack M. Ballinger, and his wife, Brenda of Oklahoma, Michael H. Ballinger and his wife ,Elena “Winnie” of North Carolina and Steven J. Farrell, and his wife ,Sharon, of Michigan.

James Carl Nystrom
James Carl Nystrom, 60, of Warsaw, a self-employed carpenter, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013. He was the son of the late Rudy Nystrom Jr. He is survived by his mother, Virginia Nystrom of Potomac Falls; his devoted companion of 33 years, Linda and a twin sister, Janice Marie Beck.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Nystrom. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Welch Funeral Home, Montross Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Cheryl F. Prince
Cheryl F. Prince 50, a resident of Montross, passed away Wednesday, December 4, 2013.
She was a self-sufficiency specialist with social services.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, James; her beloved daughter, Jacqueline B. Brown and husband, Chris and all of her four-legged children Harry, Charlie, Willie, Tina, Colby, Alecia, Molly, Tony, Caroline, Diesel, Snoop and Meadow. She was a loving grandmother to two grandchildren, Caden and Riley Brown. She is also survived by her mother, Lois Flournoy and brother, M. Wayne Crown and wife, Jean.
She leaves mother- and father-in-law, Mary Prince and Charles Prince; her brothers- and sisters-in-law Susan Prince, Elizabeth McGehee, Chuck Prince, Stuart Prince, Donald Prince and an extended group of friends and family.
She has gone to be with her four legged children, Dawson, Sandy, Biscuit, Muffin, Sammy, Ginger, April, Toby and Pumpkin.
A memorial service was held at Woody Funeral Home Parham Chapel, Tuesday, December 10.
