The Northern Neck received state dollars last week that regional officials will use to attend to branding, marketing and development initiatives throughout its localities.
On Dec. 11, Gov. Bob McDonnell announced the awarding of $200,000 in total to three collaborative efforts in Virginia through the Building Collaborative Communities Program.
Out of the three recipients of the $200,000, the Northern Neck Planning District Commission (NNPDC) received $85,000 of the funds, ahead of the Roanoke Regional Partnership with $65,000 and The Southern Virginia Regional Alliance with $50,000.
“We’re very excited about it,” said NNPDC Executive Director Jerry Davis, who added the award will allow the commission to address two of the goals that were recently identified in an update of their regional economic development plan.
With the additional funds, the NNPDC will enhance its support of local business incubators facilities, or enterprise center that support the development of entrepreneurial/startup companies through offering business support resources and services, such as the one in the Horse Head community of Northumberland County.
