Dakota Theriot, 21, formerly of Richmond County was arrested this morning by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. He is suspected of killing 5 people in Louisiana on Saturday. According to law enforcement, Theriot is accused of murdering his 50-year-old parents Elizabeth and Keith Theriot. His father was able to identify the shooter as his son Dakota, before passing away. Theriot is also accused of murdering his girlfriend Summer Ernest, 20, her father Billy Ernest, 43, and her brother Tanner Ernest, 17.
It is believed that Theriot was living with his girlfriend’s family in the Livingston Parish area of Louisiana after his parents allegedly kicked him out of their home. After the suspected shootings, Theriot then drove to his grandmother’s Richmond County residence. His grandmother, a former Northern Neck News employee, allegedly stayed in a Tappahannock Motel Saturday night in case Theriot came to her home. On Sunday morning, when Theriot pulled into the residence, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was waiting for him. He entered the driveway, pointing a gun out of the car window. The police told him to drop the weapon, which he then did, and was arrested without incident. Theriot will be booked on two counts of first-degree murder, home invasion, and illegal use of weapons, as well as three counts of first-degree murder and theft of a motor vehicle in Livingston Parish. He is currently being held without bond at Northern Neck Regional Jail, but will be transported to Ascension Parish at a later date.
This is a developing story.
