The St. Margaret’s Lady Scotties hosted and defeated the Covenant Lady Eagles (18-0) on Tuesday April 11. The Lady Scotties put up 11 runs in the first when every batter reached base at least once, and five of them twice. Mary Simms hit back to back homeruns; the second one a grand slam in the second. She (Mary Simms) said, “I just wanted to get a couple hits for my mother; she couldn’t make it to the game today, and wanted me to tell her how I hit the ball. The ball just happened to go over the fence twice.” The Lady Scotties posted 6 runs in the second and one in the third. Head Coach Rob Pierce said, “We are giving up too many walks. We had to move a few people around; we are doing well in the conference (6-0).” Starting pitcher Rilee Baughan and back-up Christine Johnson didn’t allow a runner past second base. “I’ve been working on my pitches; my change-up needs work,” said Rilee Baughan. The Lady Eagles had only two put outs; the Lady Scotties stepped off ten times. Mary Simms and Heather McMahon each scored three times, and Rilee Baughan had three hits. The Lady Scotties will face St. Catherine, Trinity Episcopal, and St. Anne’s-Belfield at home this week April 18, 19, and 21.
