The Rappahannock Lady Raiders varsity basketball team placed second in the NND tournament on Wednesday, February 13 and won their regional opening round game on Friday, February 15. The Lady Raiders went to Lancaster on Monday, February 11 and defeated the Lady Red Devils (52-29) to move into the championship game. This was one of the teams’ better performances this year; they were one and one against the Lady Red Devils, so a convincing victory gave them confidence moving on. In the championship game, the teams started slowly (2-2), (4-4), and a one-point lead (5-4) mid-way through the period. It was (7-11) at the end of the first. The Lady Raiders would be behind by as much as six (9-15) at the 5:23 mark and as close as two (15-13) with 3:23 to go and down by five (22-27) at half time. The host team Lady Eagles began the third on an (11-0) run to go ahead (38-22). At the end of the third, the Lady Raiders were down (39-52). Offensive rebounds and second chance points plagued the Lady Raiders in the third.
