The Rappahannock Lady Raiders tennis team completed their season as Class 1 State runner-up in singles, doubles, and team competition. Head Coach David Holt stated, “Not that we were aiming to do this, but the girls put in all their effort and left it all on the court.”
In singles on Thursday, June 6, Laura Ambrose won her semifinals match (7-6 (7-5), 6-3); she lost in the finals (6-2, 6-1) to be the state runner-up.
Laura Ambrose and Reagan White took their state semifinals match on Friday June 7 (6-4, 4-6, 6-3); they would push the Auburn Lady Eagles team in the finals but came up short (4-6, 4-6) to be the Class 1 State runner-up. Head Coach David Holt specified, “To say I’m proud of this team is an understatement; they came together and pulled hard all season. They put in extra time and came to practice ready to work. The Lady Raiders would face a familiar foe (Auburn Lady Eagles) in the teams’ state finals. Mackenzie Straughan won (6-4, 6-4), Reagan White (7-5, 6-4), and Taylor Vaughn (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
