The Rappahannock Lady Raiders varsity volleyball team got two wins on Tuesday September 4 and Wednesday, September 5 versus the King William Lady Cavaliers and the King and Queen Central Lady Tigers in straight sets (3-0). Head Coach Kristin Patterson said, “It was a slower game, but we executed our game plan.” The Lady Raiders went ahead of the Lady Tigers (7-0), (15-5), and (19-6); they won the first set (25-8) to go up (1-0). In the second set, the home team went up (5-0), (13-2), and won (25-11) to make it (2-0). The visitors had a lead in the third set (2-3), so there was some hope of a close game. The Lady Raiders took control (10-8), then (17-12) before closing out the match (25-14) and (3-0). “We corrected some serving errors and actually put the ball in play. We communicated, and I don’t believe we had any ball drop between us” said Head Coach Kristin Patterson. Makayla Lewis put 19 of 20 serves in play and had 7 aces, Anna Lewis had 20 of 21 serves in play with 5 aces, Rachel Hall had 13 successful passes and 4 aces, Caroline Davenport had 21 sets and 4 hits, and Ella Campbell put down 5 kills on 8 hits. Caroline Davenport stated, “We worked on somethings. I think we are playing better.” With the match going well for the Lady Raiders, they had a chance to give their reserves some playing time. The more court experience a team has the better off they’ll be. Rappahannock will on the road this week with matches at Middlesex on Wednesday, September 12 and King William on Thursday, September 13.
