Lady Raiders become regular season champions

The Rappahannock Lady Raiders varsity volleyball team brought home two trophies from the NND regular season and tournament on Wednesday, October 30. They finished the season (17-3-1) and didn’t lose a game in the NND to become the regular season champions. The Lady Raiders defeated the W&L Lady Eagles on Monday, October 28 in the semifinals and the Northumberland Lady Indians on Wednesday, October 30 in the finals to take the tournament championship. They dropped one set against the Lady Eagles the second; this was after being up (8-4) the visitors tied the score (9-9) then went up (14-16), (17-20), and won (20-25) to tie the game (1-1). The home team righted the ship after the break to change benches and side of the court. They won the next set with only five servers toeing the line; Ellie Christopher served 15 straight points to close out the set (25-7) and a (2-1) advantage. The Lady Raiders won the next set (25-15) and the game (3-1). They dropped the first set against the Lady Indians (21-25); senior captain Regan Allen said, “We take some time to warm-up when the game begins. We are working on it; we keep pushing through. Confidence all the times and positive vibes allowed us to pull out the victory.” The next three sets went to the Lady Raiders (25-17), (25-22), and (25-23) to take the game (3-1). Coach of the Year Kristin Patterson said, “I knew this was a special group of players from the get-go and they worked hard for everything we accomplished. They didn’t just walk in and it happen; they really had to work for it. Ella Campbell stepped up as a leader on the court plus she doesn’t really know how good she is and that’s a good thing.” Rappahannock will face Lancaster at home in the first round of the regional playoffs on Monday, November 4.
