Ladies extend winning streak, boys team drop district season opener, 67-54

Turnovers and facing a team with a seven-game winning streak turned out to the downfall for Colonial Beach in their district season opener. In their first game away from home, the defending region champion Rappahannock Raiders defeated Colonial Beach 44-40.

Caneishia Fulcher led Colonial Beach with 13 points, while Lasheonia Smith was the highest scorer with 18.

Rappahannock’s Selene Epps and Cedara Ashton both scored nine points each, followed by Ashley Towles with five and Kelsey Berhalter with three.

Deniya Newman and Karley Inscoe, of Colonial Beach, both contributed to the cause scoring seven each, followed by Bille Gould with six, McKenzie Conway with three, and Emily Parks and Megan Seamen with two each.

Last Friday’s game extended Rappahannock’s winning streak to eight improving their overall record to 8-1, 1-0 in the district. Colonial Beach falls to an overall record of 8-4, 0-1 in the district.

Boys Basketball

The Colonial Beach Boys Varsity Basketball Team claimed their first district win last Friday opening to the Rappahannock Raiders. After 32 minutes of play, Colonial Beach took a 1-0 lead in the district after defeating Rappahannock 67-54.

Colonial Beach’s Montie Gould was a rebound from reaching a double-double after the game. He ended the night scoring 16 points and collecting nine rebounds.

JaQuan Thompson led Rappahannock with 15 points.

The Harris brothers added to Colonial Beach’s cause with Marquel scoring 13 points and Devonte adding nine. Shamar Shanks scored eight points for Colonial Beach followed by Paris Muse and Ethan Harvin with six each, David Allison with four, Keane Foster with three and Sidney Horton with two.

Kelvonte Ellis chipped in for Rappahannock with 11 points, followed by Marcus Byrd with 12, Howard Plummer with seven, DeShawn Thompson with five and Tevin Fisher.

Last Friday’s game extended Colonial Beach’s winning streak to three improving their overall record to 7-4, 1-0 in the district. Rappahannock now holds a losing streak of three and falling to an overall record of 5-4, 0-1 in the district.
