The attorneys for the Commonwealth and the defense met behind the closed doors of the judge’s chambers in Richmond County Circuit Court Monday morning to discuss the health of defendant Michael Veney, and a possible trial date. In the end, the judge decided to grant an extension of the medical furlough. A new status hearing is set for April 1 at 2 pm.
Previously, Judge R. Michael McKenney had granted Veney a medical furlough with supervision on January 16, when his trial for first-degree murder was set to begin.
