Just outside of Warsaw, off of Menokin Road, is a historical landmark unlike any other in Virginia. Menokin, the home of one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, Francis Lightfoot Lee, and his wife Rebecca Taloe, gives to present day historians, educators, and archeologists, a piece of the past that allows them to see not just another restored dwelling, but how the actual construction itself took place.
Leslie Rennolds, Interim Director of the Menokin Foundation, describes the work being done at Menokin as a continuum. The actual house on the estate was recently a pile of rubble overgrown with trees on five hundred acres of what had once been a one thousand acre estate. It is now going through a renovation not just of a historic building, but a renovation of history itself.
