Glover oversees Robert E. Lee Memorial Association

Custis S. Glover, has begun a three-year term as President of the Robert E. Lee Memorial Association (RELMA). The association owns and operates Stratford Hall, a National Historic Landmark located on 1,900 acres on the Potomac River in Westmoreland County, Virginia.

Mrs. Glover, from Rye, New York, is the Lee family descendant representative on the RELMA Board. She is the great-great granddaughter of Robert E. Lee, and follows her mother and grandmother who also served on the Board.

“I am honored to be serving as President as we enter the public phase of Stratford Hall’s largest comprehensive campaign in its history,” Glover said. “This is an exciting time at Stratford. I look forward to working with our national Board of Directors, Executive Paul Reber and his dedicated staff, as well as all of our supporters to ensure we preserve Stratford Hall for the future, inspiring an appreciation of America’s past while encouraging independent thought and civic responsibility.”

A member of the Stratford Hall Board of Directors since 2000, Mrs. Glover most recently has served as Chair of the Education Committee which oversees programs and historic interpretation. Her committee has been very involved in the planning of the new mobile tour and visitor center upgrade that are part of the $17-million-dollar comprehensive campaign. She also chaired the Lee Integrity Committee which confers the Lee Integrity Award to an individual who best exemplifies the high standards set by Robert E. Lee through leadership, dedication to duty, moral strength and integrity.

Mrs. Glover brings a strong educational background to the position having taught at the American School of The Hague, Farmington Valley Art Center, and Ridge Street Country School. She has a Bachelors Degree in Art History from Dartmouth College. She enjoys watercolor painting in her spare time and has exhibited and sold her artwork both in America and in the Netherlands.

A native of Upperville, Virginia, Custis and her husband, John, have two children; John Spencer Glover, 28, and Amelia Lee Glover, 26.
