Total of 93 kids attend summer slam camps
Young baseball and softball players from around the area joined in one of the most attended camps this summer. Around Dreamfields in Lancaster County, a total of 93 children attended the first ever
Summer Slam Youth Baseball and Softball Camps sponsored by the Youth Club of Lancaster County.
Children from the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula attended, being trained by college coaches, players and former high school standouts.
In baseball, assistant baseball coach Kurt Elbin, of VCU, led the training with some of his players from college. Former Fauquier High softball standout Sarah Kleinfeltner, highlighted the softball camp for children between the ages of 7-12.
Kaitlin Vanlandingham, Middlesex’s Chelsea Blake, Lancaster’s Casey Clarke and Essex’s Lacey Berry assisted with the camp.
Damien Crissey, football coach at Lancaster High, said he was pleased with the turnout and participation from the coaches and standouts for attending.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without efforts of Northern Neck YMCA. Being able to partner and work with the staff at the YMCA made the afternoon session a home run,” Crissey said. “It just goes to show that when you have a great environment with great people it yields outstanding results!”
A pitching and hitting clinic was also held for two nights geared to teenagers between the ages of 14-18.
