The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) publicaly released their findings and possible fines on the Virginia True Corporation at Fones Cliff. The fines, amounting to $42,000 were released at the beginning of July, and a public comment was set period from July 9 to August 9 for those who wish to comment on the fines, whether they be small, large, or just right.
DEQ has been following the developments at Fones Cliff for eight months now. “Within several days of receiving a citizen complaint in December, DEQ conducted its first investigation,” said Greg Bilyeu, the director of communications at DEQ. “DEQ has observed the site firsthand and through satellite imagery. The findings in the consent order are the result of observations made during DEQ site inspections and information provided during settlement meetings.”
The consent order, only recently made public, included provisions for the work done on the disturbed site; such as no more work until proper stormwater permits have been approved and received, except for work needed to remediate according to their erosion and sediment control plan through the county, which has been ongoing.
