Did you get out over the weekend and do any fishing? The heat has made for some hot days and hot fishing. Dustin Bailey got out on Saturday and fished the spillway at Kissinger Springs and caught an 8 pound snakehead. I got out with my friend Tim Gray Sunday and had some fun. I caught a nice 5 pound bass that took my bait and then jumped what seemed almost 3 feet out of the water then dove back down and ran under the boat before we could land her. We had a great time laughing all day.
The bass are in their summer patterns which makes fishing slow. Early morning and late evening before dark are great times to fish up shallow. Topwater poppers, buzzbaits, and walking baits are great choices. As the sun warms the water, move to the drop offs into deeper water. Deeper diving crankbaits and soft plastics worked down the the drop offs are a good way to find a big bass. Just remember, summer is the slow time and bites can be difficult at times.
