Family Fun Night

With a slight bit of fall chill in the air, the weather was ideal for Family Fun Night on Friday, which kicked off WarsawFest and what would be two days of activities for many people.

Families came to the Town Park with chairs and blankets to stretch on the lawn to watch Monsters Inc., and some people watched from the picnic tables as they enjoyed food from Bright Eyes Concession Cargo, which had a menu ranging from hand-dipped ice cream to soft shell crabs.

Sara Carroll, president of the Warsaw-Richmond County Chamber of Commerce distributed free bags of popcorn from Northern Neck Popcorn, and some vendors had their booths open for shoppers and browsers.

This year, the rides opened Friday evening and children could get wristbands that offered unlimited access. Although the inflatable slides seemed to be quite popular, the park’s playground was also a hotspot.

After Sheniqua Wright and Chris Henry’s four-year old rode most of the rides, she headed to the swing set. “We take her a lot of places. At Kings Dominion, you would think she would have a lot of fun but she doesn’t. She likes little stuff like this that she comes to. She has a blast,” said Henry.

The couple also had their one-year-old with them. Friday was a night to bring the kids out, they said, but they were thinking of coming back to Oktoberfest on Saturday for an adults’ night out.

Kiersten Bell came from Callao. Her husband was gone for the evening so she made it mommy-and-son night for her and her soon-to-be three-year-old. “We’ll probably be back tomorrow for the parade,” she said.

Many of the families who attended the event came from surrounding counties. Bradley Heater drove in from Heathsville with his family that includes three kids. It was their first time and he said they were enjoying it.

Family Fun Night was the kick-off of an amazing weekend in Warsaw.
