One count of strangulation and one count of malicious wounding. Kevin Kelly of Tappahannock pled guilty to these charges on Thursday.
Kelly’s charges stem from attacking his then-girlfriend Michelle Jordan in both a car and their apartment in Tappahannock on September 20, 2014.
September 19, 2014 was Kelly’s birthday, and they were celebrating it with a party, according to Stacey Davenport, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Essex County.
“According to the victim, she had stepped out of the main area where the party was, and a man followed her to ask a question,” Davenport said. “When she returned, Kelly’s demeanor had changed completely and he asked everyone to leave. Jordan believed Kelly was intoxicated and acting out of jealousy.”
Once everyone had left, Kelly pulled a knife on Jordan and cornered her.
“He threatened to stab her, but she talked him out of it. He then asked her if she could take him for a ride to go to a couple places.”
