A group of 20 fourth graders at Richmond County Elementary School organized a Donation Drive for the Tappahannock Essex County Animal Shelter. The group did this as part of a larger project promoting community appreciation. The entire project was student organized, and student driven. The group started with a brainstorm of ideas, and developed the concept on their own. The idea of the donation drive was advertised to the school by the students making posters, creating a flyer that was sent home to all students, speaking on the morning announcements, and sharing the event on the school’s Facebook page. The students collected donations for a week. The amount of donations was exceptional. The students kept track of how many donations each class brought in, and the winning class from each grade received a party as a reward. On November 15, the group made a field trip to TECAS where they brought in over 700 items including cat and dog food, treats, toys, kitty litter, and cleaning supplies.
The students did the majority of the
work for their Donation Drive.
