Essex’s Clifton Bundy won the Northern Neck District’s 113-pound weight class last Wednesday in Montross at the District championships.
In the team competition, Lancaster won the final four weight classes to out point W&L, 171-168.5. Northumberland took third with 113 points and Essex fourth at 92.
Bundy joined individual champions including 106-pound Sergei Minor (W&LE); l20 lbs. Moses Oveido (W&LE); 126 lbs. James Snider (W&LE), 132 lbs. Kenique Stewart (LANC); 138 lbs. Aaron Curry (NUMB); 145 lbs. Sam McGill (W&LE); 152 lbs. Brad Smith (LANC); 160 lbs. Sam Friday (LANC); 170 lbs. Philip Harrison (NUMB); 182 lbs. Shane Chambers (LANC); 195 lbs. Kai Antonio (LANC); 220 lbs. Colton Hayden (LANC); 285 lbs. Sam Bouis (LANC).
Most Outstanding Lower Weights went to Moses Oveido (W&LE); Middle Weight to Brad Smith (LANC); and Upper Weight to Kai Antonio (LANC). Craig Oren of Lancaster was the Coach of the Year.
Essex’s Anthony Shoukas and Kainen Phillips were named to the Northern Neck District All-Academic Team. This honor is given to those students who have maintained a grade point average of 3.4 or higher.
Teams will travel to Northampton High School for the regional championships Feb. 8-9.
