A ‘Reel American Hero’ in our midst

Kris Johnson 02Did you get to go fishing this past weekend? Saturday was a beautiful day to be out fishing. I didn’t get a chance to go myself as I traveled up to the Augusta County Fishing Expo and Flea Market on Saturday with fellow angler and FLW Northern Everstart Series pro Kris Johnson. What an amazing day it was too, a lot of laughter, bass fishing skill learning, and being touched by God. The fellowship was the real highlight of the whole day. And it was a great time meeting so many new anglers from a new area of the state.
Monday sure was a beautiful day, and it sure was a white one too. I am a snow lover and truly enjoyed seeing the white blanket covering God’s awe inspiring creation. Hopefully everyone had a great time watching it snow, but I am so ready for the warmth of spring to take hold and really bring on the big fishing fun. I’m not complaining, for I know the heat of summer will be here way too soon.
Did you know that the Northern Neck is home to a professional angler? No? FLW Pro Kris Johnson makes his home in Montross. As with so many anglers that fish professionally, Kris holds down a regular job in addition to fishing. He loves serving the Lord and spending time with his lovely wife Ashante and son Jaidyn. Kris is also a gifted musician too. But he took his music not to the hip-hop scene, but to a much higher calling. Kris plays his music to God, sharing his talents to the members of his church family. And his beautiful wife, Ashante, also shares her sweet voice with their church family.
A real down to earth man, Kris gives back so much to the community through church and fishing. He and his wife were both involved in the Reel American Heroes Foundation’s Annual Fishing Tournament to help our wounded warriors. He heard about the need and answered right away, taking his boat up to Northern Virginia and taking a Wounded Warrior out fishing that day. For those that would love to see it, BASS Professional Angler and TV show host Timmy Horton was there and filmed it. It aired on Timmy Horton Outdoors just this past week. If you get the opportunity, you really need to check it out.
