RMC Mechanical Contractors is investing over $500,000 in a new office and shop. “The building is being designed to be a display item for the business and to help the company operate cheaply,” explained Robert Wilburn.
At 5,680 square feet, it will be about the same size as the company’s old facility, but this building will have better windows, doors and insulation. There will be high-efficiency heating and air, which will include radiant heating inside the facility and in the apron around the building to encourage snow melt and prevent icy doors.
“We’re trying to be very green with this building, and we want to do a good job of heating and cooling it at a good price,” said Wilburn.
Connemara Construction Company is building the facility at 15600 Richmond Rd. in Callao, the site of RMC Mechanical’s old office and shop, which was destroyed in a fire on March 23.
Initially, the company set up operations in a house after the incident, but for the past several months, RMC Mechanical has been working out of a portable office trailer and six storage containers. Leasing those items has cost the company nearly $15,000 so far, according to Wilburn. But the company is expecting to see cost-savings when its new building is complete.
The metal structure is already in place and construction of the roof will begin soon. Wilburn said RMC Mechanical hopes to be in its new home by the end of November.
