Fred H. Swaffin III
After serving as assistant coach Fred took over the helm of the Lancaster High School Golf program in 1995 and in 1998 led them to their first ever state championship.
At the time it was the schools third state crown in any sport. After 11 years of qualifying golfers every season for state tournament play, he took the entire squad back in 2009 finishing as the Region A runner-up. Fred was a three time men’s golf champion at Indian Creek Yacht and Country Club.
Michelle M. Lybarger
Michelle began her running career in 1990 at the age of 35. Starting with 5K, 10K and 15K races, she soon began amassing age group awards in these events. Inspired and challenged by a life long friend and fellow running convert, she ran her first half-marathon in 1992 at Camp Lejeune,NC, placing third in her age division. Motivated by the success of that race, she competed in her first marathon in March of 1993 inVirginia Beach. One year later, Michelle ran her first qualifying time for the Boston marathon,
In 2005, having completed 24 marathons, and in celebration of her 50th birthday, Michelle embarked on a goal to run a marathon every month that year. This goal soon evolved into the challenge to run a marathon in all 50 states. (At this point, she has completed 40 states and a total of 72 marathons. She continues to run competitive times, frequently winning age group awards.) In addition to the marathons, Michelle has completed six 50-mile ultramarathons, including a 1st place master’s finish in the Tussey Mountainback run in Boalsburg, PA in 2004.
Michelle was recruited in 2000 by the Village improvement Association in Irvington to coordinate a family friendly run/walk event on Thanksgiving Day. This event has become a memorable holiday ritual for many families in the Northern Neck and Michelle has served as the race director since its inception.
Richard “Rick” DeVivi
DeVivi was responsible along with Chris Valdrighi for starting the soccer program in the Northern Neck and was successful atNorthumberlandHigh Schoolwith a .640 winning percentage over a 20 year span, going 199-124-13 that included Region A Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1997, and Northern Neck District Coach of the Year five times. Under his guidance Northumberland High School won the Region A Championship four times and won the first ever Group A invitational soccer tournament.
He was also honored by being named Coach of the Boys’ East All Star Soccer Team twice by the Virginia High School Coaches Association.
