Tappahannock Essex Volunteer Fire Department to hold fund-raising golf tournament

On Saturday May 18, The Tappahannock Essex Volunteer Fire Department (TEVFD) will hold their annual fund-raising Golf Tournament at Hobbs Hole Golf Course, 1267 Hobbs Hole Drive in Tappahannock. In the past there have been as many as 35 four-person teams playing. This four-person captain’s choice tournament will tee off at 1:00 p.m. after a great lunch starting at 12:00 noon.     The “Big Croaker” winners of 2012 took home $4,000 in prizes. At the final weigh-in at June Parker Marina, contestants anxiously awaits the arrival of the big croaker entries from Dock Street ramp and from Garrett’s Marina locations and watch the results being tabulated on the leader board.

Walker ’99 has been selected as their new Athletic Director.  Walker brings a wealth of experience as both an athlete and an administrator.  After graduating from St. Margaret’s, she received a full scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Florida.   • Hillman earns black belt

    On March 16, Chase Hillman, student of the Supreme Martial Arts Academy in Tappahannock, successfully completed his black belt test, progressing in the study of Karashutsu Ryu Karate, a combination of American Free Form Karate, Senshi Ryu Ju Jitsu and Shoot Fighting (mixed martial arts). Hillman is instructed by Shihan Varian L. Beverly, the founder of Supreme Martial Arts Academy. Hillman is a 5th grader at Richmond County Elementary School.

    On Tuesday, April 23 a hundred golfers braved unusually chilly spring weather to participate in Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury Foundation’s 29th Annual Open Golf Tournament at The King Carter Golf Club.
