Essex and Northumberland boys’ basketball teams will represent the Northern Neck District for the Group A Division 2 Boys’ State Championship Tournament after battling in the region playoffs last week. However it was Northumberland that settled who would be crowned this year’s region champion defeating Essex 60-59 last Saturday.
On Feb. 23, fourth seeded Northumberland defeated sixth seeded Essex 60-59 in the Region A Division 2 championship at Lancaster High School. This was the fourth meeting between the two teams this season with Northumberland having a 3-1 lead over the defending region champions.
